Movie-makers need a little review. Subjects to cover? Cary Grant, Doris Day, Katherine Hepburn, Fred MacMurray, Jimmy Stewart, Haley Mills, & Audrey Hepburn to name a few. Hollywood also needs to relearn what a good story looks like. I assign you Mark Twain, Jane Austin, CS Lewis, Jack London, Shakespeare.... Now this does not mean that I want you to remake their stories over and over and over, under a different name! I mean for you to learn that it is possible to have an imaginative idea and create an interesting story.
Hollywood's worst offender; the romantic comedy! Let's see girl meets boy. Boy and girl fight. Girl and boy have to pretend to like each other. Girl or boy sees the other hold a baby, play with a child, or pet a dog. Girl or boy starts to think maybe the other's not so bad. Someone gets a makeover & there's a romantic montage. Someone does something unforgivable. Que the sad music. Boy or girl chases the other-must stop them before they leave (because, of course, if they get in that taxi, plane, bus- then that is IT. That is akin to them falling off the face of the earth). They kiss. Then some catchy pop tune plays while the credits scroll.
I'm bored with it, I don't want to go to the movies, rent it, pay-per-view it, or buy it anymore! From now on I will just watch the trailer which tells the whole story anyway!
What movies make you wish for the old days of Hepburns instead of Cyrus?
